Madeleine Orange Butter Cookie Recipe

Hi there everyone,

Whenever I bake these delicious shell-shaped cookies I know Spring is coming.  I start to daydream, about traveling, to France, Italy, Spain, Greece.  But one country that usually stands out to visit in the Spring is definitely France.  Paris is one of my favorite cities, but the countryside of France is just breathtaking.  Beautiful, picturesque villages, quaint Cafes filled with mouthwatering pastries.  For example, fresh-baked Eclairs filled with fresh Vanilla Custard, fresh-baked Lemon tart or delicious Vanilla flavored Madeleine.   Sound good?  Let’s not forget the chocolate pastries for chocolate lovers.

But let me tell you a bit more about these lovely  Madeline cookies that were a lovely addition for me on Valentine’s Day.  I’ve made Vanilla Madeleines but I was looking for a recipe that had a bit of a sweeter taste.  The recipe below is from “Entertaining with Beth”  I have been following her for a while and she has some great recipes.

I baked a batch of the original recipe which was delicious.  I wanted a bit more of the orange taste and so I added a few tablespoons of Orange juice.  I squeezed half of the orange that I used and added one and a half tablespoons to the recipe.   The recipe you see below is from “Entertaining with Beth” except for the added orange juice.

Most prefer these delicious little bites with a cup of tea, but I enjoy these little cookies with a nice cup of coffee.

Madeleine Orange Butter Cookie Recipe

These little buttery cookies have a hint of orange taste and scent.
Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 20 mins
Course Dessert
Cuisine French
Servings 4 people

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs
  • cups superfine sugar
  • 1 orange zest
  • 1 ½ tbsp orange juice
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • cup butter melted unsalted

Instructions
 

  • Beat sugar with eggs.

  • Add orange zest and juice and whisk.
  • Add all dry ingredients into the egg mixture. Whisk until it becomes a thick batter.
  • Melt the butter and let it cool before adding it to the batter. Leave batter in the fridge overnight.
  • Pour one tablespoon of batter into the form. Bake at 180 for 20 min or until golden brown. Sprinkle powder sugar over the cookies.
