Hey there foodie friends,
Breakfast time!! This Artisan Bread French Toast recipe has been sitting in my draft box for just under two years. I was looking through my posts and I remembered that I never posted this recipe. It was about time that I posted it. I mean seriously!! Two years ufff!! As we all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day and so my mom was always trying to make it interesting. Don’t get me wrong we loved and still do love cereal, buttered toast etc, but this French toast breakfast was such a treat even more so to the eyes.
Our French toast breakfast was always a luxury gourmet type, fancier French toast. So, to this day I continued this Gourmet Artisan Bread French Toast tradition. My mom would always bake bread so we would wake up with the smell of freshly baked bread and we knew what was for breakfast. My choice of bread is Italian artisan bread or sourdough bread for my French toast. Choose the type of bread that you enjoy eating to prepare this French toast recipe.
I avoid using brioche because it’s already too buttery. Since we do use butter to cook the toast why use brioche bread, but again this is my personal opinion. The Italian bread or Sourbread gives a slightly crispy taste around the edges and is tender and fluffy inside. I also think that butter plays a huge role when it comes to French Toast. Personally, I’ve always used one specific unsalted brand of butter, I also use this butter when I’m backing and I don’t plan on changing any time soon.
I also leave the bread in the egg & milk mixture for a few seconds to soak in on both sides. Now, if you’re not into maple syrup for one reason or another, then you can substitute it with good-quality honey. Unfortunately, Maple syrup is quite expensive here in Europe so I use Greek honey to drizzle over my French toast.
So, keep all this in mind and you can go from just simple French Toast to a luxurious breakfast without having to go to an expensive hotel. I have had my share of Pancakes at Pancake houses, friends’ homes, hotels, and making them at home but they just never really sit well with me. French Toast on the other hand is definitely my favorite breakfast treat.
The ingredients in the recipe card are for four large slices of bread, two slices per person. I will be uploading the video to my youtube channel soon. 🙂
Have a wonderful morning/noon/afternoon/evening everyone!!
