Hey there foodie friends,
Looking for an easy cheese pie recipe? I’ve got one for you!! This Easy Greek Cheese Pie (Tyropita) recipe takes about 10 minutes. Two pies are popular in Greece, Spinach pie and Cheese pie, while Spanakotyropita has spinach and feta cheese filling, Spanakopita has only a spinach, herb, and spice filling. The cheese pie on the other hand is full of variations of cheeses that makes these pies great street food.
This recipe has no herbs, only three different cheeses feta, cream cheese, and grated Emmental cheese. If you’re not familiar with the name Emmental Cheese well here it is peeps, it’s Swiss cheese. It’s the yellow cheese with the holes. Swiss cheese in Europe is called Emmental cheese it is the same cheese with holes and everything. :).
As far as the phyllo for this recipe goes I used a few sheets of country phyllo which is thicker. I layered three sheets on the bottom of the pan and then worked with the last three sheets to finish. You can use as many as you like, I chose to work with six country Phyllo sheets. Try to purchase good quality phyllo sheets, I do understand good quality country phyllo could be expensive but the result will taste amazing. The cheese is the main ingredient in this cheese pie, so this goes without saying that good quality feta cheese is the way to go.
I used Epoiros feta cheese, I am not sure if you can find this specific brand, and if you prefer a saltier feta cheese then this one is not for you. Epiros feta has less salt so you can regulate the amount of salt you add in your recipe. I haven’t added any salt because all three cheeses combined are perfect. The nutmeg spice added into the mix is the game changer in this Easy Greek Cheese Pie (Tyropita) recipe.
Give it a try and see for yourself 🙂
Have a great morning/afternoon/evening everyone!
