Walnut Cake wrapped in Phyllo & topped with Dark Chocolate, Walnuts Crumbs

Hi,

Back in May I returned to Greece with my husband and Charlie for a few days.  When we were finally finished in Athens, we had the chance to go to one of my favorite Islands in the Ionian Sea, Kefalonia.  Well, actually this is where my husband is from.  We were only there for a short time but this gave us the opportunity to take a day trip around the Island. 🙂

I absolutely love the local cuisine, actually some of the recipes I have posted in the past are from Kefalonia. It was just around lunch time when we arrived in Fiscardo.  Fiscardo, with the crystal clear waters, was a small Fisherman’s Village back in the day, but now it has become one of the hottest spots for Yachting, Scuba Diving and of course Chilling. 🙂   We went to our favorite place to eat the APAGIO TAVERN.  When they bring the Menu I get so confused that I don’t know what to choose sometimes.  The Seafood is fresh, caught by local fisherman daily, salads, side dishes freshly made everyday. The desserts are to die for, and the tavern is also  Pet and Vegeterian Friendly.  🙂  (I liked the Pet part)

I started to post the Desserts we ate first, because I just had to show you the picture. My husband ordered the Walnut Cake wrapped in Phyllo and topped with Dark Chocolate. I ordered hmmmm I will show what I ordered next time. 🙂  I took a little bite and yes just a bite, too much chocolate for me and I think my face said it all, each bite was amazing.  It is one of those desserts that you just can’t get enough of.    

The service as always Amazing!!  The staffffff  just fabulous!!! ohhh and funny.  If anyone ever gets  a chance to visit Greece,  I would absolutely advise on visiting the IONIAN ISLANDS.… and the Island of Kefalonia, and the other beautiful Ionian Islands, with their beautiful crystal clear waters.  Visit this beautiful little town, and this amazing Tavern, and ask for Valentina.  Valentina is kind, smart and with a really good sense of humour. This is one of the beaches on the Island, which is actually on the way to Fiscardo.  Myrtos Beach is one of the Top best beaches in the world!!!  If this doesn’t get you to this Island, I seriously have no idea what would hehehhehe just kidding 🙂   It took me a few times to get this shot, but I finally did it. 🙂

Welcome to a small corner of my Greek Heritage. Growing up in New York from Greek parents, was a challenge of its own...but the traditional food, tastes and aromas that my mother cooked always travelled me back to Greece. My mother is a wonderful cook, our house would always have that smell of home cooked food. I remember very clearly that we were only allowed fast food, once a week, that was a huge day for myself and my brother. Jumping up and down in the back car seat, laughing, just being kids. It is true that we all like to eat different foods, taste, smell, even try food that looks different than our regular meals at home and I think that is so natural. In my teens, I was not really into cooking, I enjoyed my magazines after school, listening to music, and just taking a breather. There were times that I would glance at some of my mom's recipes, more out of curiosity than to actually try to cook them. At that time I did not realise that cooking would become my passion one day. Slowly, I would start to look into my mom's recipes a bit more each day and I started to find it interesting as a hobby. Each month I would go into our neighborhood bookstore and pick up my monthly book, until one day I decided to stroll over into the cooking section. That summer was the first time I actually bought a cooking magazine....and I loved it. Cooking and baking started out as a hobby, but now after many years it is my passion. Exploring the cuisines, the spices, the oils, the scents, the variety of smells and tastes that exist. It was and still is an amazing journey without limits. So, come along with me on this adventure, and I hope you enjoy my recipes. Sophie

      Thank you Megala...I shot that's all it took hahahaha..Most of the time I have to take about 10 to 15 to tryyyy to get to look decent enough....:)
