Oven baked Greek Paprika Peppers (Psites Piperies)

I spent most of the afternoon yesterday in the kitchen preparing a few things, and well I had a bit of a mishap with the camera.  🙁 Even though I had taken pictures of the preparation my camera went bananas…It was fully charged and was working fine but all of a sudden it just starting doing it’s own thing..on/off, on/off for a while and then it just suddenly stopped. :(. So, this morning I looked at it again and it seems to be working now, but unfortunately some of my pictures have disappeared. 🙁  I apologise for not having any photo of the preparation process for this recipe, it’s seem that my camera ate them. 🙁 🙁

The Greek Cuisine is full of all types of Appetisers, with Feta Cheese or without Feta Cheese Aubergines, Zucchini, Fish, Dips, Baked, Roasted, Fried I can go on and on, but I won’t because I want to tell you a little about the taste of this delicious, delightful recipe.  If your a lover of peppers you will love this recipe because it’s so unique in it’s own way, it has a bit of spiciness  from the peppers and yet the peppers have a bit of sweetness at the same time. 🙂

I remember when I first tried these peppers, my husband and I loved and still love to travel and we were still in the dating mode when we decided to go on a trip to Kastoria, Greece.  A beautiful city up north surrounded by beautiful mountains, and Lake Orestiada.  It was late in the afternoon when we arrived and were starving, (I still remember it to this day) 🙂  We found this small little tavern close to the lake, we order a few things to eat. My husband knew that I loved peppers but he also knew that I had never tried this before so he added this dish to our order.  When the peppers arrived I was a bit hesitant because there was vinegar on it 🙁 but ok I had to try it and I enjoyed it…:)

When the waiter came over to our table again I asked if I can have another order but without the vinegar..:)  It was delicious!!!  (Since then I have completely omitted the vinegar hahahhaha)  I like it simple Olive Oil, Oregano and Feta Cheese. Most still do add vineger but I think by adding vinegar you lose that smokey taste of the peppers once their baked.

If you haven’t come across this type of appetiser/dish, then this is a must try!! I am sure your tastebuds will go completely into shock. 🙂  Baked peppers just taken out of the oven with a slight smokey taste to it, and the addition of Olive Oil along with Feta Cheese and  slightly sprinkled Oregano over the peppers…Seriously good tasting food!! 🙂

OVEN BAKED GREEK PAPRIKA PEPPERS (PSITES PIPERIES)

Ingredients

  • 6 Paprika Peppers
  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Oregano
  • 1/2 cup Feta Cheese cut in cubes
  • 2 tablespoons Vinegar optional
  • 1 small plastic bad

Instructions

  • Wash and dry Peppers.
  • Cut top of Peppers, and remove the seeds.
  • Place washed Peppers into a baking pan.
  • Pre-heat over at 180 degrees..and bake or grill (whichever is easier for yofor about 30 minutes on each side. (If your going to grill the peppers 15 minutes on each side is more than enough, then again this all depends on the oven.)
  • The easiest way to peel the peppers is if you place them in a plastic zip lock bag for about 5 to 10 minutes and move them around. Let them cool off before starting the peeling process. Peel peppers starting from top and continue towards the bottom
  • Place Peppers into a dish and top off with Olive Oil, Feta Cheese, and Oregano.
