This Greek Tzatziki Recipe is a well-known appetizer especially to those who know of Greek cuisine and love garlic. It is made with freshly grated cucumber, garlic, greek yogurt, olive oil, and my absolutely favorite herb Dill. The traditional Greek Tzatziki recipe does not contain dill, but as the years go by you want to tweak it with one more ingredient. I chose dill because well, we all love this herb.
If you could just see how I prepare this Greek Tzatziki Recipe, you would on the floor laughing. I basically hold my breath so that I don’t smell the garlic!! The dill definitely helps bring down the intense smell of the garlic once it’s combined.
I am going to honest, many many moons ago I used to eat Tzatziki. But manyyyyy manyyyyy moons ago my husband and I went out with friends to a Greek Souvlaki place in our neighborhood, in Greece. Never really liked garlic but I would just add a dash of it to my souvlaki.
Anyway, we gave our order and all the delicious treats arrived about 30 minutes later. I had ordered Chicken Kalamaki (Chicken Skewer) with a side order of tzatziki. It also came with french fries and a small greek salad. I remember this because that was the night I stopped eating Tzatziki altogether.
To make a long story short, the Tzatziki had a strange smell more of a funky smell. I mentioned it but everyone said I was being “picky”. Well, guess!! that night everyone got food poisoning except for me. I was right!! Hmm, Picky eater!! shhh don’t tell anyone but I am a picky eater. 🙂
So, for those of you who love garlic give this recipe a try.
Have a good one everyone!!!
