Creamy Garlicky Tzatziki Dip

Hey there garlic lovers,

You know how some dips pretend to be healthy but secretly contain three blocks of cream cheese? Yeah… tzatziki is not that kind of dip. :). The creamy, garlicky Tzatziki dip is made with Greek Yogurt, garlic, and a few other small ingredients.

Tzatziki has roots that go way back into the food traditions of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East. The idea of mixing yogurt with herbs, garlic, and cucumbers started long before modern Greece. It comes from ancient dishes enjoyed across the Ottoman Empire and Persia. Variations of yogurt‑based dips existed everywhere, but Greece gave it its own personality.

The Greek version we know today is made with thick strained yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, and herbs.  This version became popular because of Greece’s love for strained yogurt (the famous Greek yogurt) and the abundance of fresh cucumbers and garlic. Over time, tzatziki became a staple on every Greek table. In traditional Greek homes, tzatziki wasn’t just a dip; it was a cooling, refreshing side dish meant to balance rich, grilled foods.   (Please note that Greek Style Yogurt is not Greek Yogurt)

This creamy yogurt‑cucumber garlic dip has been around forever and will continue to be around forever and ever. In Greece, it shows up piled on pita, or eaten straight from the bowl when no one is looking. (I’ve seen this happen) hahahhahha

The secret to great tzatziki is simple: good quality Greek yogurt. If you skip this, your dip will turn into a sad, watery soup, and nobody wants that. Then comes the garlic. Add as much as your heart desires. Most tzatziki dips use more than three cloves, and honestly, if you want to keep away vampires, exes, and anyone who says “I don’t like Greek food,” go ahead and add more. hahahahahahah.

Next up: the cucumber. It needs to be a crunchy, fresh cucumber, not one of those sad, forgotten ones sitting in the fridge looking all blahhh. Add a splash of again good quality olive oil, a sprinkle of dill… and suddenly you’ve created the most refreshing Mediterranean dip on the planet. It’s creamy, tangy, garlicky, and simply made for garlic lovers!

Serve this Creamy Garlicky Tzatziki Dip with pita, veggies, grilled chicken, or just a spoon. I won’t tell. So enjoy garlic lovers!!
