Amaretto Chocolate Dessert Surprise

How is everyone today?  It was our Easter this past Sunday and I hope everyone who celebrated Greek Easter enjoyed the holiday.  I would love to hear how everyone spent the Easter Holiday. 🙂  The day was spent indoors, it was raining so we weren’t able to celebrate the way we would have liked too.  

I couldn’t decide what kind of dessert to make, I had a few White Chocolate recipes, but I knew I would get that rolling the eyes and “what no Chocolate” look!!  So, I gave up on that idea and went for  this  delicious Italian Amaretto Chocolate Dessert.  When it was ready, I just gave it a quick taste to see if the taste was strong enough. You know me, I don’t eat Chocolate but  everyone else enjoyed it!! 

I love Italian food, desserts, everything Italian…:)  Also meaning, bags, cloths, make-up, perfume, and oh yes the country of course. 🙂  I have never been to Rome, and I so do want to visit.  So, I am keeping fingers crossed that maybe this year I just might be able too.  Wishful thinking, but you never know what life might just bring your way.  We will see how things will roll in the next few months. 🙂

I do have Italian friends, and I adore them.  I do hope that I will have the chance to meet with them face to face after so many years.  We do Skype but it really isn’t the same. 🙂

AMARETTO CHOCOLATE DESSERT SURPRISE

Ingredients
  

  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour
  • 3 cups Milk
  • 1 Vanilla Stick
  • 1/3 cup Butter
  • 1/4 cup Amaretto Liqueur
  • 150 grams Dark Chocolate finely chopped

Instructions
 

  • On low heat add sugar and flour into sauce pan. Mix dry ingredients thoroughly.
  • Add in milk
  • stir until it starts to thick.
  • Add in the Amaretto Liqueur, stir.
  • Continue by adding in the Dark Chocolate,
  • and butter.
  • Stir until it becomes a thick texture.
  • Once it is ready, let this cool and place into the glass of your choice.

Welcome to a small corner of my Greek Heritage. Growing up in New York from Greek parents, was a challenge of its own...but the traditional food, tastes and aromas that my mother cooked always travelled me back to Greece. My mother is a wonderful cook, our house would always have that smell of home cooked food. I remember very clearly that we were only allowed fast food, once a week, that was a huge day for myself and my brother. Jumping up and down in the back car seat, laughing, just being kids. It is true that we all like to eat different foods, taste, smell, even try food that looks different than our regular meals at home and I think that is so natural. In my teens, I was not really into cooking, I enjoyed my magazines after school, listening to music, and just taking a breather. There were times that I would glance at some of my mom's recipes, more out of curiosity than to actually try to cook them. At that time I did not realise that cooking would become my passion one day. Slowly, I would start to look into my mom's recipes a bit more each day and I started to find it interesting as a hobby. Each month I would go into our neighborhood bookstore and pick up my monthly book, until one day I decided to stroll over into the cooking section. That summer was the first time I actually bought a cooking magazine....and I loved it. Cooking and baking started out as a hobby, but now after many years it is my passion. Exploring the cuisines, the spices, the oils, the scents, the variety of smells and tastes that exist. It was and still is an amazing journey without limits.     Happy (belated) Easter! Sorry you had rubbish weather for it, I had a quiet one too. Sadly I didn’t have such a yummy dessert to enjoy – this sounds delicious! And never say never about Rome, maybe this could be the year..! xx

    All I have to do is look at that to know I’d love it!! You’ve outdone yourself. Here’s crossing fingers you’ll get to visit Rome and bring back some recipes and idea for the rest of us!!
