Traditional Greek Salad (Choriatiki Salata)

Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend šŸ™‚Ā  A brand new week ahead of us and I am hoping that it is a good one for everyone.Ā  I am back with a salad again today, and this one I know that everyone knows and has tried šŸ™‚ the Traditional Greek Salad,Ā  or otherwise known in Greece as “Choriatiki Salata” which translated into English meansĀ  “Country Salad” or “Village Salad”Ā  Ā

This reminds of a story, my Dad had a really great sense of humour sometimes his jokes were just to funny that my stomach would hurt from laughing so much, but sometimes he would say things that were just so nonchalant…This is really funny but you need to understand Greek to be able to understand.Ā  We had gone to a Greek Tavern inĀ  Chasia which is an area in Athens that mainly has Greek Taverns. šŸ™‚Ā  We were just about to order the appetisers when my dad turned around in a very nonchalant way and asked the waiter if they had “Vlaxiki salata” instead of saying “Choriatiki salata”.Ā  We had never heard this salad referred to as Vlaxiki Salad, we hadĀ  a good laugh and so did the waiter!! šŸ™‚Ā

The truth is that back in those days the VillagersĀ  would grow there own tomatoes, cucumbers, so when working in the fields they would have a Tomato, Cucumber a few olives on a napkin to eat.Ā  So the term Vlaxiki Salata comes from how they used to eat, as years followed the named changed to Greek Salad, or Choriatiki.Ā  Ā šŸ™‚Ā  My mom grew up in a village so she told me that back then this is what my grandfather used to take with him to eat while he was out working, as did many villagers and this is what they called it a Vlachiki Salata.

My dad I miss him very much and those were the few last times we went out beforeĀ  he passed away. šŸ™Ā  Ā Ok, I am going to stop now because I am becoming very emotional, so here is my version of the Greek Salad hope you enjoy it!! šŸ™‚
