Four Ingredient Chocolate Cake

Chocolate, Chocolate… and Oh Look, More Chocolate!   Some desserts are a treat. This four-ingredient chocolate cake is the sort of cake that makes neighbors knock on your door because of the chocolate aroma. The aroma drifting in the hallway of the building, you know, basically it’s a chocolate perfume. :). Can you smell it?? 🙂

It’s rich, dark, and unapologetically chocolate-proof.  I first baked it on a cloudy afternoon when the craving for cocoa went from maybe a piece of chocolate to a must-have cake. A quick look in the pantry revealed only a few basics, but that turned out to be all I needed. What makes this cake irresistible isn’t just the chocolate. It’s eggless and butterless chocolate cake.

There is no endless measuring; it’s the dessert you can whip up in a matter of minutes.  Four ingredients, one pan, a little oven magic, and suddenly an ordinary day turns into a happy occasion. That’s the kind of recipe every kitchen needs: a cake that proves simplicity.

I baked this cake yesterday, it’s been raining all day, and it’s chilly. The craving for cocoa went from maybe a bite of dark chocolate to I need something decadent.  Let’s not forget the layer of Nutella as the ganache.

What’s great about this cake is its simplicity. It doesn’t need layers of frosting or fussy decorations to impress. One slice and you will understand what I mean.  The center stays luscious and moist, while the edges develop a gentle chew.  I hope this sounds interesting to the chocolate fans.  Most of you already know that I am not a chocolate fan.  Butttt there are those…….days….:)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder Add three to four more tablespoons if you want a darker and richer flavor. Shift the cocoa before adding it.
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • butter just enough to grease your baking pan.
  • 5 tbsp Nutella

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 170℃. In a large bowl, combine the sugar and milk, whisking until the sugar fully dissolves.
  • Add the shifted cocoa powder to the mix and whisk.
  • Next, add the self-rising flour and stir until all the ingredients are well combined.
  • Grease your baking pan with butter before pouring in the mixture.
  • Bake for 40 minutes.
  • After the cake has cooled off, spread a generous amount of Nutella with either a spatula or a knife.
