Creamy Manouri Cheese Salad

Hey there,

Have you heard of Manouri cheese? Yes? No? Well, foodie friends, I think it’s time I introduced you to another delicious Greek cheese. There are so many Greek cheeses besides Feta cheese, and this is one of those delicious cheeses.  Manouri cheese is a soft, creamy whey cheese mainly produced in northern Greece and on the island of Crete.  Where can you use Manrouri cheese, well first off in this delicious Creamy Manouri Cheese salad, you can also use this cheese in Spanakopites, or on pasta.  Manouri can be crumbled but not grated if you use it to top off your pasta dish.

To make this Manouri cheese recipe drizzled with honey and a few sprinkles of sesame seeds on top, I fried it in a pan with one tablespoon of vegetable oil.  A grill pan is ideally the best option, but since I don’t own one I went with a normal frying pan.  I have been thinking of buying one lately not just for this cheese recipe.

I have other recipes in mind and I think I need to invest in a grill pan.  It is time for me to visit a Cookware store, I love going to these stores. I stopped shopping online two years ago, I wasn’t really into online shopping but due to the lockdown.  I prefer going to stores and shopping, rather than sitting once again in front of a screen.  This way my mind relaxes, I can get some fresh air and then return with a clearer mindset.

Anyway,  back to this cheese recipe,  as I was saying I fried the cheese for a few minutes on both sides to have that crispy texture on the outside but still stay creamy inside.  Earlier that morning I had washed and cut the greens for this salad.  I also pan-fried the pita bread without any oil just a few minutes on both sides in a hot pan does the trick.

Manouri is similar to another Greek cheese Anthotyro which is less salty but both are soft and similar in texture.   If you’re looking for a delicious winter salad make this Creamy Manouri Cheese Salad drizzle sweet honey and sesame seeds.

Have a wonderful morning/afternoon/evening everyone!
