Hello,
My Thanksgiving menu was almost done but I hadn’t yet decided on a dessert. I was debating between a chocolate cake or an apple crumble cake. After hours of deliberation, 🙂 I went with this Greek Chocolate Cake referred to in Greece as Sokolatopita. I’m not joking, I had both recipes on my kitchen counter for hours and kept going back and forth. I finally decided on this chocolate cake because I don’t think there is anything better than a bite of delicious moist Chocolate cake for most of my guests.
This Greek Chocolate Cake is moist and its rich texture makes it unique. Sokolatopita’s texture is a combination of pudding and cake if that makes any sense. This Sokolatopita is made all over Greece but with many variations and twists. In the Northern part of Greece, they add cinnamon in other regions they add a splash or even a shot of brandy. All versions of this traditional Greek Chocolate Cake continue to have everyone falling in love with it.
Here’s something that will make you laugh, while my cake was baking I heard a knock on my door. My neighbor wanted to know if I was baking a Chocolate cake. It seems the aroma of the cake went over to her place and had her drooling for a piece. What more can I say, except that this Sokolatopita is for those Chocolate lovers who can’t get enough Chocolate? You can serve this cake with a scoop or scoops of Ice cream, or a dusting of powder sugar. You can also add nuts if you want to add a nutty taste to this Sokolatipita, you can even make a chocolate ganache topping if the cocoa syrup may seem too much.
I read somewhere that cocoa is in full circle instead of chocolate, so here is your opportunity to try out this delicious Greek chocolate cake made with cocoa. So, go ahead and give it a try. I am so sure you will love it.
Wishing everyone a good morning/afternoon/evening
