Greek Chocolate Cake (Sokolatopita)

A traditional chocolate cake made with cocoa and soaked in chocolate syrup.

- 1½ cups sugar granulated
- 1½ cups water
- 1¼ cup all-purpose flour sifted
- 1 cup unsalted butter cut into cubes
- 3 eggs medium
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder sifted
- 1 tsp baking powder
Preheat oven to 170c.
Add the water, sugar, and cocoa powder into a pot and boil on low heat.
Add the butter and stir until it melts and all the ingredients have combined.
Whisk together the flour and baking powder in a sepaate bowl.
Remove from heat and pour 1 ½ cups of the mix into a separate bowl.
With the remaining mixture slowly add in the dry ingredients and whisk.
Add in one egg and a time and continue to whisk.
Butter a 25 x 25 baking pan and add in the mix. Bake for 30 minutes,
Remove from oven pour over the cake the cocoa syrup and let it cool.
Serve with a scoop of your favorite ice cream or dust with powdered sugar.
