Buttery Mashed Sweet Potatoes

I needed a few ingredients since I hadn’t prepared this mashed sweet potato recipe in such a long time. Sweet potatoes are easy to find in markets but don’t you think it’s quite frustrating when you are looking for certain ingredients but are not able to find them?   After returning from the market I started preparing to make this mashed sweet potato by washing the sweet potatoes.  I used unsalted butter because it works well when cooking buttery recipes.  I prefer to season the sweet potatoes when I’ve already mushed and mashed them.

The ingredients I used are basic but the one main ingredient I use when cooking these buttery mashed sweet potatoes is balsamic vinegar.  I found this recipe about six years ago and haven’t changed it since.  One of my favorite chefs is Yiannis Loukakos who was born in the US I have mentioned this chef in past posts.  I was watching his show while he was preparing this Mashed Sweet Potato recipe and I was quite surprised when he added balsamic vinegar. And of course, what did I do I went straight to the kitchen and tried it out.  I happened to have sweet potatoes and I always have balsamic vinegar on hand I gave it ago and I love it.

Although I no longer live in the US, I celebrate Thanksgiving and other national holidays.  The US was and still is a part of my life, that’s where I grew up, went to school, and made friends.  This year my Thanksgiving Dinner menu has already been planned out.  This Buttery Mashed Sweet Potatoes side dish will be one of the side dishes.  Speaking of dishes, dinnerware, this is the one I use, I love the simplicity of this dinnerware set https://amzn.to/4efw500

Tip: Want to spruce up this recipe add herbs and spices.  Yummy!

Buttery Mashed Sweet Potatoes

A soft buttery textured sweet potato recipe combined with balsamic vinegar.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Servings 6 servings

Ingredients
  

  • 5 sweet potatoes washed
  • 100 grams butter unsalted cut into cubes
  • 1 ½ tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • salt and pepper optional

Instructions
 

  • Add the sweet potatoes into a large pot cover with water and boil. The sweet potatoes are ready when soft and tender. Put the butter in a pot and melt on low heat.
  • Once the potatoes are ready drain and set aside for a few minutes. Peel the skin off the sweet potatoes put the potatoes into a large bowl and mash with a fork or a potato press.
  • Slowly add in the melted butter and finally the balsamic vinegar. Stir until all the ingredients are well combined. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Serve immediately and hot.
