Hello friends,
(Updated recipe)
If you have any feta cheese in the fridge, here’s your chance to make this delicious Baked Feta Cheese Meze. It seriously doesn’t get more Greek than this recipe. If you love Greek food, you already know that feta is not just something we crumble over a salad. Oh no! We bake it, grill it, fry it, stuff it, add it to pies… basically, if there is a way to enjoy feta, Greeks will probably find it! Hahhahaa, and we did!!!
This easy baked feta meze is one of those little dishes that I love serving when I want something quick. The feta becomes beautifully warm and soft while the flavors around it come together in the oven. And let’s be honest here… warm, creamy feta with a little crust around the edges and some good bread for dipping? Yes, pleaseeeeee!
Greek meals are very often about sharing. You don’t necessarily sit down with one big dish in front of you and call it dinner. Instead, you might have a little bit of this, a little bit of that, some bread in the middle of the table, a Greek salad, olives, maybe some vegetables, and a few mezedes for everyone to enjoy. There is no pressure to make everything complicated. In fact, some of the best Greek dishes are incredibly simple.
It is easy enough for a weekday, but it is also lovely when you have friends or family coming over. You can put it in the oven while you are preparing the rest of your meal, and before you know it, you have a delicious little appetizer ready for the table. Why I love baked feta: hmmmm, well, because it has such a distinctive flavor. It is salty, tangy, and creamy, and baking it gives it a completely different texture.
When feta is baked, it becomes soft and wonderfully creamy inside while the outside can become slightly golden. Add the other ingredients and seasonings from the recipe, and you have a meze that is full of Mediterranean flavor without needing a long list of ingredients. You will need something to scoop up all those delicious flavors. THE BREAD!!! hahahha
Now, for the olives: if you don’t like them, you can leave them out and add extra oregano or thyme to give the meze a nice kick. This Baked Feta Cheese Meze is one of the most delicious Greek recipes and is a must-try!!:)
Wishing everyone a wonderful morning/afternoon/evening! 🙂
