Hello everyone,

Chocolate cakes: The aroma that fills the kitchen as it bakes, the anticipation of that first slice, and the rich chocolate flavor that melts in your mouth.  It’s no wonder chocolate is considered one of life’s greatest pleasures. And yes, chocolate lovers, I know, I know how you feel!

What’s great about this cake is that it relies on good-quality cocoa powder rather than melted chocolate. Cocoa brings an intense chocolate flavor that is deep, rich, and wonderfully balanced. Combined with simple pantry ingredients, it creates a moist cake with a tender crumb and a luxurious texture that tastes as though it came from a professional bakery. The cake is rich without being overly sweet, so it’s great for birthdays, family gatherings, and afternoon coffee. 🙂

The magic happens when the cocoa powder is blended into the batter, creating a beautiful chocolatey color and an irresistible aroma.  Every bite delivers intense chocolate flavor followed by a smooth richness that keeps you coming back for another slice. What makes this cake different from a traditional chocolate cake?  It’s dense and moist.  The crumb remains wonderfully moist for days, making it an excellent make-ahead dessert.

I often serve this cake with a simple dusting of powdered sugar or a silky chocolate frosting. Fresh berries also pair beautifully with its richness, adding a touch of freshness that balances the chocolate flavor. If you’re a coffee lover like me, a slice of this cake alongside a hot cup of coffee is pure happiness.

One of the reasons I enjoy making this recipe is that the ingredients are usually already in my pantry. Cocoa powder, flour, sugar, eggs, and butter come together to create something surprisingly elegant.  In regard to the flour, I used self-rising; I didn’t have baking powder…hahahhahahah

If you love chocolate desserts, this Chocolate cake with cocoa powder deserves a place in your recipe collection. It is simple, comforting, and packed with rich cocoa flavor in every bite. One slice is never enough!  The frosting on top of the cake is also homemade…I will share that recipe at a later time 🙂
