Kalo Mina – Good Month

Hey there, friends,

Kalo Mina – A Greek Wish for a Good Month Ahead

If you’ve ever been in Greece at the start of a new month, you might have heard a warm little phrase floating around: “Kalo Mina!” (Καλό Μήνα). It’s one of those lovely Greek traditions that doesn’t require a big celebration or an elaborate meal (though let’s be honest, food is never far behind). It simply means “Good Month,” which is a sweet, hopeful wish we say to each other on the first day of every month.

We say it to friends, family, the baker, the barista, the neighbor you barely know but always run into at the supermarket, and it’s just one of those little cultural habits that’s filled with warmth.

We don’t make a huge fuss about it, but it’s part of the rhythm of Greek life, and it’s like saying “Kali Orexi” before a meal or “Kalo Taxidi” before someone hits the road. These small phrases carry a big heart.

So here it is from me to you, as I do each month. Kalo Mina! May July bring you lots of laughter, more sunny days than cloudy ones, and maybe even a new favorite recipe. 💛

Huge hugs to all

Sophie 🙂
