Homemade Greek Village Bread

This homemade Greek village bread (Horiatiko psomi) is rustic, hearty, and made from scratch. With its golden crust and soft interior, it’s the kind of bread that fills your kitchen with irresistible aroma.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ⅓ cups bread flour
  • ¾ cups water luke warm
  • 1 ½ tsp dry yeast
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • sesame seeds optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 220-250℃.
  • Add all the ingredients to a bowl. Start with the dry ingredients and pour in the lukewarm water towards the end. Use your hands to mix.
  • Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and set it aside somewhere warm to double its size.
  • Lightly coat your hands with olive oil or vegetable oil, then fold the dough inwards, shaping it into a smooth ball.
  • When the dough ball is ready, cover it with a kitchen towel and let it rest for about 30 minutes, giving it time to rise a little more.
  • Line your bread pan with parchment paper, then gently place the dough inside. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the bread dough.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown with a crunchy crust.
