Cuisine Greek
- 330 grams self-rising flour
- 330 ml orange soda sugar free
- cinnamon
- honey
- 1 - 1.5 liter vegetable oil
In a large bowl, combine the flour with the orange soda. Use a spatula;, a whisk will not work as well.
Heat the oil and, if you have a thermometer handy, wait until it reaches about 170°C. Then, start dropping in spoonfuls of dough, one at a time.
Using a spoon dipped in water (so the dough doesn’t stick), scoop out a small spoonful of dough and gently drop it into the hot oil. Fry in batches. Don’t overcrowd the pan!
There’s another traditional way to shape them, but honestly, it’s a bit messy. Trust me, using a spoon works just fine, and you’ll still end up with perfectly golden little puffs.
Serve them hot, drizzled with plenty of honey and sprinkled with cinnamon. For a little extra crunch, toss your favorite roasted nuts on top.
