Greek Grape Spoon Dessert

This is a traditional preserved dessert made with whole grapes simmered in a sugar syrup. Infused with lemon and sometimes spices. Served with a spoon and a glass of cold water, it's a classic Greek hospitality treat, sweet, simple, and bursting with nostalgia.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lbs/kg seedless green grapes
  • cups brown sugar add extra for more sweetness
  • cups water
  • ¼ tbsp vanilla extract
  • lemon juice

Instructions
 

  • Remove the stems carefully from the grapes and rinse them thoroughly under running water.
  • Place the grapes in a large pot and sprinkle in the brown sugar. You can use regular sugar to prepare this recipe.
  • Pour in the water and the vanilla extract and bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Avoid using a spoon to stir and just give the pot a little shake now and then.
  • Slowly pour in the lemon juice.
  • This delicious dessert is ready when the syrup has thickened and has a glossy, rich shine.
