Crunchy Walnut Apple Pie

Crunchy Walnut Apple Pie

Heyy there,

Apple Season is here…woo hoo…love those apples. 🙂  So, why is this crunchy apple pie?  Wellll, I added a bit of sugar on top 🙂   I think this is probably the oldest Apple Pie recipe that I have prepared.  This recipe is actually my husband’s grandmother’s recipe from wayyyyy backkk when. 🙂  It was seriously so simple to make, just a few ingredients!!! Grandma’s recipe actually only had 6 ingredients.   I added the Walnuts and the Granny Smith Apples.  🙂

Of course, back then grandma didn’t add any Cinnamon or lemon juice into the apple filling, but if you think about it, this is actually how we all got started.  Basic simple ingredients, no Vanilla Extract, or brown sugar, or a special flour.  Simple, and yet so scrumptious. 🙂

I remember my grandmother she was always in the kitchen, cooking, baking.  I remember when we would visit how the house would always have that delicious smell of baked cakes.  She always loved to wear one simple apron, it was white with just a few flowers, it was so pretty.  You knew that she was definitely going to do some serious cooking when that apron went on. hahahahha 🙂

My cousin Julie and I would watched her sometimes while she was in the kitchen, making dinner.  She had this huge cooking pot, HUGE!! (grandma or otherwise known from the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding YiaYia had 5 children, plus the grandkids ussss!! A small one was defintiely not going to do the job!!

Our family gatherings were quite big, I remember once we must have been about 50 people sitting at one table..Yep, huge table, and so many different variations of food..Everyone just helped setting the table and serving the food but YiaYia did all the cooking.

Believe it or not, if you have seen the movie that is exactly what goes on in a Greek Family gathering and it was a lotttt of fun!!

What a lovely tribute, and it's wonderful to hear more about your family life and what it was like growing up. My grandparents on my mother's side died before I was born, and the family on my father's side was quite split; I did see my gran & grandpa a handful of times when I was tiny but that was all. Given my experiences, I love the sound of closer extended families, the warmth of gathering in the kitchen and passing down recipes. This one sounds deliiiiiiicous, and I love Granny Smith apples, my favourite! Have a lovely weekend, Sophie. I hope hubby is doing as well as possible, too  ♥ Caz xx
